Have you been through all the emotions with being a mother during this pandemic?  I have.  Anger and fear, grief and frustration, anxiety and apathy. This is not how I wanted my life, how I thought my life would be when I had kids.  They were spaced apart enough that I would only have 2 at home at a time while the oldest was in school.  Now that the youngest is getting close to 2, we had him in daycare so I could focus more on my business and have some breathing space to manage my responsibilities around managing our home and family.  So the middle was with family a few afternoons a week after her preschool.  Everything was going so well, flowing along.  And now it has been tossed in the air and I am still fitting the new pieces...

I wanted to take this week to thank all the female owned businesses, entrepreneurs and women working in women's health and perinatal health for all their collaboration, encouragement and support as I grow this business at my own pace.  I have only had positive suggestions support and encouragement along the way.  If you are surprised you are one here, never underestimate the power of providing support to someone.  If for some reason I did not get your name on here, I humbly apologize and hope you know that I thank you in my heart of hearts. I also want to thank all my friends, family and husband for listening to my ideas, loving me through my struggles, and watching the kids so I can work on my own ME. I highly recommended these...

One year growing a baby on the outside of my body and growing myself as a mom and person.  He is almost walking and has a mouth of teeth.  He gets carried more than his siblings ever did and probably spends more time in the stroller and car seat as well as we go on adventures with the older two.

I am more patient and more accepting of whatever happens.  And chaos happens daily.  I have realized that the most important thing in birth, pregnancy and parenting is finding my center and knowing that I will be okay no matter what happens.  Chaos will happen and no amount of planning or prepping will avoid it.  There are days when the plans changes 6 or 7 times due to illness, injury, or weather.  My kids need me to be solid in the...

Breastfeeding.  One of the many parenting skills you only hear and read about before doing it without practice.  Suddenly you are attaching a small slippery wiggling newborn to one of the most intimate parts of your body. As you do so, it feels like the weight of the world is laid upon you because with this act you will provide all of the essential nutrients for this little being to grow.  Our society is so removed from this life-giving occupation that most people have never seen another person breastfeed except through Youtube videos or maybe renaissance paintings. Unless a person works in the birth community, has a close connection with a sister or a memory of a mother feeding siblings, almost no person observes those first at...

As I am working through my postpartum recovery I want to share my experience as well as some pointers from an occupational therapy perspective.  Each of my pregnancy, birth and postpartum times has brought different learning experiences and different challenges.  This is my third child so I have had a variety of experiences after giving birth and some things worked (resting way more than I thought I needed to) and some things did not (thinking my husband and I could do it all alone and not ask for help).  So here is what I feel like were the most important experiences I wanted to share.

Setting up for success

I spent my first postpartum standing next to an isolet while my first baby, Beck, wa...

Becoming a Mom is like finding an old purse (if you use one) or maybe an old backpack.  Suddenly life changes and when you have a moment, whether days after birth or years into parenting, to take a breath, check in with yourself, and look at how you have changed, you realize things are different.  You were so excited to try the new bag that you have left some things behind that as you sort through them, different emotions arise.  That chapstick you bought because you had to have it but never used it.  A keychain a friend gave to you.  Old coupons and gift cards to places you never visited but always wanted to.  A memory keepsake you have carried with you for many years as a talisman that is still very meaningful to you....
